About

Ammi means mother.

Our kiosk at the Pier 57 Food Hall is a homage to all mothers, and to home-style Indian cooking — to what mothers stand for, and to good memories and good food.

A mother's food signifies warmth, comfort, and safety to all of us.

Suraiya Rizvi

The home-style menu at Ammi is hers. Mother of restaurateur Jimmy Rizvi.

Suraiya started cooking from an early age, and her recipes go back further still — to her grandmother's traditional meals, the flavourful ones the family still measures everything else against.

Among friends and family she is known for her homemade curries, her bread, her freshly made pickles, and perfectly seasoned meats and vegetables.

Inspired by her love for cooking and a desire to share her family's recipes with the world, Suraiya and the Ammi kitchen serve some of India's best-loved food — cooked the way it is cooked at home.
